Born to race

Raffaele “Lello” Marciello was born in Zurich (Switzerland) on the 17th of December 1994; he soon moved to Caslano (Ticino Canton), where he and his family currently live. An Italian citizen, Lello began his racing career at a tender age, having inherited his father’s passion for karting. His results were excellent from the get go: Lello obtained more than eighty victories and was crowned Swiss champion twice, dominating the WSK series and winning the prestigious Champions Cup. The next step – moving on to the world of single seaters – was the logic one for Lello: after tests in Formula Renault 2.0, 2010 already saw him taking the 3rd overall position in the Formula Abarth. Following is achivement Lello was chosen to be part of the Ferrari Driver Academy – an honor bestowed only to a handful of extremely skilled young race drivers.

In 2011 Lello stepped up in class and graduated to Formula 3 Italia; he claimed numerous podiums and finished the championship in 3rd position (2nd in the rookie standings). He moved to Maranello, the home of the Prancing Horse, where he found the perfect environment to train, study, and prepare for his races.

In 2012 Lello took the F3 Euroseries and FIA Championship by storm, obtaining a 2nd overall position thanks to eight victories and thirteen podiums – including the historic success at the de Pau Grand Prix at the age of 17.

In 2013 he improved the previous season’s results achieving 13 victories and several podiums. Lello was crowned the FIA F3 champion.

2014 was Lello’s rookie season in GP2 with the Spanish team Racing Engineering, while 2015 he is proud to ride for Trident and be Sauber’s 3rd pilot in F1.

In 2016 Lello continued his GP2 adventure racing for Russian Time. 2017 opened a new era in Raffaele’s career, racing for team AKKA as a professional Mercdes-AMG Pilot.

Nato per correre

Raffaele Marciello nasce a Zurigo (Svizzera) il 17 dicembre 1994, per trasferirsi quasi subito a Caslano (Canton Ticino), dove vive tuttora con la famiglia. Cittadino italiano, Raffaele inizia giovanissimo la sua carriera motoristica, ereditando dal papà la passione per il kart. I risultati sono subito eccellenti: Lello, così è soprannominato da sempre, ottiene un’ottantina di vittorie, diventando tra l’altro due volte campione svizzero, primeggiando nella classe regina, la WSK Series e vincendo la prestigiosa Champions Cup.
Il passo successivo lo conduce con naturalezza alle monoposto: prima i test in Formula Renault 2.0, poi nel 2010 la Formula Abarth (3° posto finale). In quel periodo Lello entra a far parte della Ferrari Driver Academy, scelto assieme ad altri pochissimi piloti di talento.

Nel 2011 il primo salto di qualità con il passaggio nella Formula 3 Italia: molti i podi e 3° posto finale (2° tra i rookie). Lello si trasferisce intanto a Maranello, nella casa del Cavallino Rampante, dove studia, si allena e prepara le gare.

Nel 2012 Lello approda in Europa nei Campionati F3 Euroseries e FIA, ottenendo rispettivamente il 3° e il 2° posto nella classifica generale grazie a otto vittorie e tredici piazzamenti sul podio. Storica la vittoria ottenuta al Gran Prix de Pau a 17 anni.

Laureatosi campione nel Campionato FIA F3 nella passata stagione (condita da 13 vittorie e svariati podi), il 2014 per Raffaele è l’anno dell’esordio in GP2 con il team spagnolo Racing Engineering. Ad inizio 2015 entra nel team italiano Trident e viene scelto da Sauber come terzo pilota.

Il 2016 l’ha visto impegnato, sempre in GP2 series, con Russian Time. Il 2017 apre invece un capitolo nuovo nella vita di Raffaele, divenuto ormai pilota professionista, per Akka Team, Mercedes-AMG.
