A COMEBACK POINT AT SPA FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO IN THE FIA WEC
The third round of the 2025 World Endurance Championship took place at the spectacular Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The WRT #15 team arrived in Belgium with a haul of 26 points earned in the previous two races and held fifth place in the drivers’ standings. Raffaele Marciello was joined by Kevin Magnussen at the wheel of the BMW M Hybrid V8, sharing the 6-hour race between them. The Swiss driver took part in the qualifying session, stepping in for Dries Vanthoor, who was competing overseas. Unfortunately, Marciello narrowly missed out on advancing to the second phase reserved for the ten fastest teams, qualifying 11th on the grid with a time of 2:01.410 — partly due to a Balance of Performance (B.o.P.) that did not favor the Bavarian manufacturer.
Magnussen started the race for Team WRT, and was the only driver to opt for soft tires — a risky gamble that paid off immediately thanks to a brilliant start that brought the team up to sixth place. The pace of the #15 BMW proved extremely competitive, and after the first pit stop, Magnussen climbed to fourth. Marciello took over for the next stint, but had to deal with the consequences of two penalties incurred by his teammate: a drive-through for speeding in the pit lane and another for breaching virtual safety car procedures. As a result, Marciello was relegated to last place in the hypercar class, with a considerable gap to the rivals ahead.
During the race, thanks to smart strategy and his confidence on soft tires, the Swiss driver managed to fight his way back up to tenth place, minimizing the damage and securing a valuable championship point.
A result that leaves a bit of regret, considering the race pace showed potential for a podium finish. The #15 now sits eighth in the drivers’ standings with 27 points, while BMW holds third place in the manufacturers’ standings with 64 points. The next round of the FIA WEC is also the most important of the season: the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for June 14–15, 2025.

Il terzo appuntamento della stagione 2025 del World Endurance Championship ha avuto luogo sullo spettacolare circuito di Spa-Francorchamps. Il team WRT #15 è arrivato in terra belga con un bottino di 26 punti conquistati nelle due gareprecedenti e il quinto posto nella classifica piloti. Raffaele Marciello è stato affiancato da Kevin Magnussen alla guida della BMW M Hybrid V8, dovendo dividere con lui le 6 ore di gara. Il pilota svizzero ha preso parte alla fase di qualifica, sostituendo per tale ruolo Dries Vanthoor impegnato oltreoceano. Sfortunatamente, Marciello ha mancato di poco la qualificazione alla seconda fase dedicata ai dieci team più veloci, conquistando l’11esimo posto in griglia con il tempo di 2:01.410, complice un Balance of Performance (B.o.P.) che non si è dimostrato favorevole al costruttore bavarese.
Magnussen è stato il pilota partente per il team WRT. Nonché l’unico a scegliere di partire con le gomme morbide: un azzardo rischioso per il team che ha però pagato fin da subito grazie a una splendida partenza che ha portato la squadra al sesto posto. Il passo della BMW #15 è risultato estremamente competitivo e dopo la prima sosta Magnussen è salito fino al quarto posto. Marciello ha ereditato il volante per lo stint successivo, dovendo tuttavia subire le conseguenze di due penalità ricevute dal compagno: un drive through per eccesso di velocità ai box e un altro per aver violato le procedure di virtual safety car. Marciello è stato così relegato all’ultimo posto di classe hypercar, con un considerevole distacco nei confronti dei rivali. Durante la gara, grazie anche alla strategia e alla confidenza sulle gomme morbide, il pilota svizzero è riuscito a risalire fino al decimo posto, limitando quanto più possibile i danni grazie al punto ottenuto.
Un risultato che lascia un po’ di rammarico per un potenziale in gara che poteva far pensare al podio. La #15 è ora all’ottavo posto in classifica piloti con 27 punti, pur attestandosi al terzo posto nella classifica costruttori con 64 punti. Il prossimo appuntamento per il FIA WEC sarà quello più importante dell’intero campionato: la 24 Ore di Le Mans, in data 14 e il 15 giugno 2025.
