MARCIELLO’S STRUGGLES IN THE GT MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUE AS THE GAP WITH THE COMPETITION REMAINS TOO BIG
In a winter climate, Marciello traveled to the Red Bull Ring track (Austria) for the fifth stage of the Adac GT Masters. Once again, it was evident since Thursday’s free sessions that the setup of Team HTP Winward’s Mercedes AMG GT3 no 48 was far from perfect in dry conditions. The car performed better on a wet track, and Marciello immediately established himself as the top driver in the session.
The team attempted to fix the problem during Friday’s free sessions, but the weather forced them to work in wet conditions and prevented them from finding a satisfactory solution.
On Saturday’s first qualifying session, Marciello’s teammate Ellis (Switzerland) finished fifth – the first Mercedes behind a top four consisting of Lamborghinis, BMWs and Porsches. In the race that followed he slipped back to seventh in the beginning phases, and handed the car to Marciello in the same position with 30 minutes to go. The Ticino driver got on the track in eight after the pit stop and managed to climb back up to fifth thanks to a series of well-executed overtakings at the expense of a Porsche and a Lamborghini.
On Sunday, on a dry, ice-cold track, Marciello finished 12th in qualifying, once again hindered by a car setup that doesn’t allow him to go toe to toe with his adversaries as he usually does. In the afternoon’s race he fought his way up to seventh and then to sixth thanks to a sharp overtaking of the Audi in front, but had to surrender that position when a faster car (a BMW) inevitably flew past him. Ellis took the wheel in seventh, but was penalised because of a track limits violation and finished tenth.
Marciello is now on his way to Belgium, where he will race in one of the most important events of the season: the 24H of Spa-Francorchamps, which this year, for the first time in its history, will take place at the end of October (from the 22th to the 25th).

CONTINUA LA SALITA NEL CAMPIONATO GT MASTERS: ANCHE IN AUSTRIA SI E’ PAGATO UN ELEVATO GAP CON LA CONCORRENZA
In un clima nettamente invernale, Raffaele Marciello ha fatto tappa in Austria per il quinto appuntamento dell’Adac GT Masters presso il tracciato del Red Bull Ring. Nel saliscendi Austriaco, Raffaele ha preso parte alla competizione sempre con il Team HTP Winward a bordo della Mercedes AMG GT3 numero 48 coadiuvato dallo Svizzero Ellis. Giovedì i motori si sono accesi per una sessione di prove libere dove in condizioni di asciutto é emerso un set-up non ottimale (purtroppo come già verificatosi nelle gare precedenti con il medesimo Team che continua a faticare nell’equiparare le prestazioni degli altri Team) mentre, in condizioni di bagnato, il Ticinese Marciello si é imposto in prima posizione sull’intero gruppo, apprezzando molto di più il comportamento della vettura.
Venerdì, giornata di prove libere, si è sempre lavorato per migliorare la vettura anche se, essendo sempre in condizioni di bagnato, vi era poco margine rispetto a quanto si sarebbe potuto fare in condizioni di asciutto. Sabato mattina, nella prima sessione di qualificazione valida per la prima gara del weekend, Ellis é riuscito a piazzarsi in quinta posizione, prima vettura della casa Mercedes AMG dietro la concorrenza Lamborghini, BMW e Porsche.
Nella gara del pomeriggio, Ellis partito quinto é poi scivolato in settima posizione nelle fasi di partenza, ha mantenuto la posizione consegnando poi la vettura a Marciello a mezz’ora dal termine. Raffaele, rientrato in ottava posizione dopo il pit stop, é riuscito a risalire sino alla quinta piazza con dei bei sorpassi sulle Porsche e Lamborghini in fronte. Domenica mattina, in condizioni di asciutto ma artiche data la temperatura dell’aria di zero gradi, é andata in scena la seconda sessione di qualificazione con Marciello al volante: Raffaele si é posizionato in dodicesima posizione, ennesima riprova di un campionato che non vuole andare per il verso giusto, non rispecchiando il valore che il pilota Ticinese solitamente mostra con gli altri Team Mercedes AMG con cui corre, lottando sempre per la testa della corsa. Nel pomeriggio, in gara, Marciello con grande decisione é riuscito in partenza a portarsi dalla dodicesima piazza alla settima, effettuando sorpasso decisi. Con una bella staccata sull’Audi in fronte, Raffaele si é poi portato in sesta piazza prima di dover cedere la posizione alla velocissima BMW che é sopraggiunta alle spalle.
Consegnata la vettura dunque ad Ellis in settima posizione, lo svizzero dopo il pit stop ha chiuso la corsa in decima posizione a causa di una penalizzazione ricevuta per il non rispetto dei track limits. Il tempo di chiudere questa gara ed immediatamente Marciello sarà diretto in Belgio per un appuntamento importantissimo: la 24H di Spa-Francorchamps che si correrà dal 22 al 25 Ottobre, prima volta nella storia così tardi in calendario.
