MARCIELLO SHINES FOR BMW AT SPA: SECOND PLACE IN THE HYPERCAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The FIA World Endurance Championship stopped at Spa-Francorchamps for the second round of the 2026 season. Raffaele Marciello represented BMW behind the wheel of the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8, shared with former Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen and Dries Vanthoor, during a particularly important race weekend.
After the free practice sessions, the #15 car secured a place in the Hyperpole thanks to the seventh-fastest time in the first qualifying session. In Friday’s decisive session, the BMW driven by Marciello, Magnussen, and Vanthoor eventually finished tenth with a lap time of 2:01.317, a result that did not fully reflect the team’s strong race pace potential.
The 6 Hours of Spa turned into an intense race, heavily influenced by several incidents and safety car periods. At the start, Magnussen immediately gained positions, bringing the #15 into contention with the leading group. Over the course of the six hours, Marciello and Vanthoor delivered solid and consistent stints, keeping the car in the fight despite a far from straightforward race.
BMW’s strategy played a decisive role. While the sister #20 car managed to take the lead thanks to aggressive pit stop management, the #15 remained in podium contention until the closing stages. In the final minutes, Magnussen defended second place with great determination against attacks from the #50 Ferrari, securing a historic BMW one-two finish on the Belgian circuit.
Marciello, Magnussen, and Vanthoor crossed the line in second place overall, just 1.969 seconds behind the winning #20 BMW after 151 laps of racing. For “Lello,” it was a highly valuable result, achieved in one of the most demanding races on the calendar and at a crucial moment of the season ahead of the build-up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Second place also leaves a slight sense of regret for a victory that came very close, but it confirms the competitiveness of the BMW M Hybrid V8 and the work carried out by Marciello together with BMW M Team WRT. The Spa podium sends a strong message for the remainder of the FIA WEC season and gives the Swiss driver an important result at one of endurance racing’s classic events.

Il FIA World Endurance Championship ha fatto tappa a Spa-Francorchamps per il secondo appuntamento della stagione 2026. Raffaele Marciello ha difeso i colori di BMW al volante della BMW M Hybrid V8 #15, condivisa con l’ex Formula 1 Kevin Magnussen e Dries Vanthoor, in un fine settimana particolarmente importante.
Dopo le prove libere, la vettura #15 è riuscita ad accedere alla Hyperpole grazie al settimo tempo ottenuto nella prima sessione di qualifica. Nella fase decisiva del venerdì, la BMW di Marciello, Magnussen e Vanthoor ha poi chiuso in decima posizione con il tempo di 2:01.317, un risultato che non rispecchiava pienamente il potenziale mostrato dalla squadra sul passo gara.
La 6 Ore di Spa si è rivelata una corsa intensa, condizionata da numerosi episodi e neutralizzazioni. Alla partenza Magnussen ha subito recuperato terreno, portando la #15 nelle posizioni utili per restare agganciata al gruppo di testa. Nel corso delle sei ore, Marciello e Vanthoor hanno contribuito con stint solidi e costanti, mantenendo la vettura in lotta nonostante una gara tutt’altro che lineare.
La strategia della BMW ha giocato un ruolo decisivo. Mentre la vettura gemella #20 riusciva a prendere il comando grazie a una gestione aggressiva dei pit stop, la #15 è rimasta nella battaglia per il podio fino alle fasi finali. Negli ultimi minuti Magnussen ha difeso con grande determinazione la seconda posizione dagli attacchi della Ferrari #50, completando così una storica doppietta BMW sul tracciato belga.
Marciello, Magnussen e Vanthoor hanno tagliato il traguardo al secondo posto assoluto, a soli 1.969 secondi dalla BMW #20 vincitrice, dopo 151 giri di gara. Per Lello si tratta di un risultato di grande valore, arrivato in una delle gare più impegnative del calendario e in un momento chiave della stagione, alla vigilia dell’avvicinamento alla 24 Ore di Le Mans.
La seconda posizione lascia anche un pizzico di rammarico per una vittoria rimasta vicina, ma conferma la competitività della BMW M Hybrid V8 e il lavoro svolto da Marciello insieme a BMW M Team WRT. Il podio di Spa rappresenta un segnale forte per il prosieguo del FIA WEC e regala al pilota svizzero un risultato importante in una delle classiche dell’endurance mondiale.
