WEC: EIGHTH PLACE FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO IN AUSTIN
The FIA World Endurance Championship returned to the track after its summer break for the fifth round of the 2026 season, held at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin. Raffaele Marciello contested the Lone Star Le Mans at the wheel of the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 fielded by BMW M Team WRT, sharing the car with Kevin Magnussen and Dries Vanthoor. The crew arrived in Texas following their victory in the previous 6 Hours of São Paulo, the first win of the season for the #15 car.
However, the weekend at the American circuit proved more challenging for BMW than the previous rounds. In qualifying, neither of the two M Hybrid V8s managed to secure a front-running position on the grid, with the #15 of Marciello, Magnussen and Vanthoor starting the race from 11th place.
The six-hour Lone Star Le Mans was held in particularly demanding conditions, with high temperatures, heavy humidity and periods of rain. Despite their low starting position, the BMW #15 crew managed to make steady progress throughout the race. Thanks to an efficient and consistent performance, the M Hybrid V8 gradually climbed the order and eventually moved into the top five, remaining in contention for a strong result.
The situation changed during the final stages of the race. With around 45 minutes remaining, a Safety Car period bunched the field back together and, following the restart, the BMW #15 was unable to match the pace of its closest rivals. Marciello, Magnussen and Vanthoor ultimately crossed the finish line in eighth place, nevertheless securing valuable championship points.
Following their victory in São Paulo, Austin therefore proved to be a more difficult round for Raffaele Marciello and BMW M Team WRT, who were unable to replicate the level of performance shown during the first part of the season. BMW nevertheless leaves the Circuit of The Americas second in the Manufacturers’ Championship with 131 points, just nine behind Toyota.

Marciello ha affrontato la Lone Star Le Mans al volante della BMW M Hybrid V8 #15 del BMW M Team WRT, condivisa con Kevin Magnussen e Dries Vanthoor. L’equipaggio arrivava in Texas dopo il successo ottenuto nella precedente 6 Ore di São Paulo, prima vittoria stagionale per la vettura #15.
Il fine settimana sul tracciato statunitense si è però rivelato più complicato per BMW rispetto agli appuntamenti precedenti. Nelle qualifiche le due M Hybrid V8 non sono riuscite ad accedere alle posizioni di vertice della griglia e la #15 di Marciello, Magnussen e Vanthoor ha conquistato l’undicesima posizione di partenza.
La Lone Star Le Mans, disputata sulla distanza di sei ore, si è svolta in condizioni particolarmente impegnative, con temperature elevate, forte umidità e alcuni momenti caratterizzati dalla pioggia.
Nonostante una posizione di partenza arretrata, l’equipaggio della BMW #15 è riuscito a
recuperare terreno nel corso della gara. Grazie a una condotta efficiente, la M Hybrid V8 è risalita progressivamente fino ad entrare nella top-5, mantenendosi così in lotta per un risultato importante.
La situazione è cambiata nell’ultima parte della corsa. A circa 45 minuti dalla bandiera a scacchi, una fase di Safety Car ha ricompattato il gruppo e, alla ripartenza, la BMW #15 non è riuscita a mantenere il passo dei propri diretti avversari. Marciello, Magnussen e Vanthoor hanno così concluso la sei ore texana in ottava posizione, conquistando comunque punti per il campionato.
Dopo la vittoria di São Paulo, Austin ha quindi rappresentato un appuntamento più difficile per Raffaele Marciello e per BMW M Team WRT, che non sono riusciti a confermare le prestazioni mostrate nella prima parte della stagione. La BMW lascia comunque il Circuit of The Americas al secondo posto nella classifica Costruttori con 131 punti, nove in meno di Toyota.
