Bad luck in Austria

I ran into quite a bit of bad luck this weekend on Austria’s Red Bull Ring. I hoped to be able to stand on the podium again, like I did in Monaco, but I had to settle for a 10th and a 15th place. And yet things had started out well: in the qualifying rounds I obtained the sixth best time – a mere three tenths from the pole position – and I achieved a great start in race 1 which allowed me to stay in the top four until the safety car was deployed. Sadly, when the VSC announcement appeared I was in a zone without signals: I lost ground and lost a few positions. During the second part of the race I changed tires, and a problem jeopardised my chances of getting a good result: a screw malfunction stretched the pit-stop’s time, making me fall back to 18th place. Despite a big effort in the final laps the best I could obtain was a 15th place. In race two I therefore had to sprint from the back of the grid, and I was able to take 10th place – a few seconds short of scoring points – thanks to a very aggressive race. Championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne (Belgium) and Rio Haryanto (Indonesia) were the weekend’s winners. Despite the obvious disappointment I won’t let what happened in Austria discourage me; the next stage of the GP2 will take place in Silverstone in little more than a week, and it will be the perfect opportunity for me to bounce back.

Poca fortuna in Austria
