EPIC VICTORY FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO AT SUZUKA
The 1000km of Suzuka, the fourth round of the 2025 Intercontinental GT Challenge, concluded with a spectacular performance by Raffaele Marciello. The Ticino-born driver returned to Japanese soil, where he had previously competed in the 2018 and 2019 editions of the legendary endurance race, having already secured one victory and two podium finishes.
Marciello took part in the event alongside Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts, driving the #32 BMW M4 GT3 Evo for Team WRT.
The qualifying format required all drivers in the lineup to take part. Marciello tackled the first session, topping the timesheets with a lap of 2:00.251 — the fastest of the trio. Combining the results of his teammates, the team secured pole position for the 1000km of Suzuka, with a margin of five tenths over their closest rivals.
Team WRT entrusted van der Linde with the race start, and he immediately created a gap to the competitors, allowing the team to manage the early phases of the race. Weerts continued the work of the South African driver, extending the lead to nearly thirty seconds. Marciello got behind the wheel with just over four hours left on the race clock, setting a series of fast laps that further increased the gap. However, the second half of the race saw numerous full course yellow and safety car periods, which made things more complicated. A strategic approach, with Marciello and Weerts alternating behind the wheel of the BMW M4, allowed them to hold onto the lead.
Night fell over Suzuka during the final stint, with van der Linde crossing the finish line to win the 2025 edition of the 1000km of Suzuka.
For Marciello, this marks his second victory in the history of this iconic endurance race — his first with BMW — and his third consecutive podium at Suzuka. In the Intercontinental GT Challenge standings, Marciello now climbs to second place with 80 points, just five points behind the leader. The final round of the 2025 Intercontinental GT Challenge will take place at the Indianapolis circuit on October 18.

La 1000km di Suzuka, quarto appuntamento dell’Intercontinental GT Challenge 2025, si è conclusa con una spettacolare gara di Raffaele Marciello. Il pilota Ticinese ha fatto ritorno in terra giapponese, dove aveva già partecipato nelle edizioni del 2018 e 2019 della mitica maratona, ottenendo già una vittoria e due podi.
Marciello ha preso parte all’evento insieme a Kelvin van der Linde e Charles Weerts a bordo della BMW M4 GT3 Evo #32 del team WRT.
Il format della fase di qualifiche ha previsto la partecipazione di tutti i piloti dell’equipaggio. Marciello ha
affrontato la prima sessione, conquistando la cima della classifica con un tempo di 2:00.251, il migliore tra i tempi della squadra. Combinando i risultati dei suoi compagni, il team ha ottenuto la pole position per la 1000km di Suzuka, con un margine di cinque decimi sul più vicino degli inseguitori.
Il team WRT ha affidato a van der Linde il compito della partenza, il quale ha fin da subito creato distacco sui rivali, permettendo alla squadra di amministrare la gara nelle prime fasi. Weerts ha proseguito il lavoro del sudafricano, portando il vantaggio a quasi trenta secondi. Marciello è salito in macchina quando sul timer della corsa mancavano poco più di quattro ore, inanellando una serie di giri veloci che hanno incrementato ulteriormente il distacco. Nella seconda metà di gara la presenza di molte fasi di full course yellow e safety car ha però complicato le cose, ma una strategia che ha visto Marciello e Weerts alternarsi alla guida della
BMW M4 ha consentito loro di mantenere saldamente la prima posizione. La notte di Suzuka è arrivata per l’ultimo stint di gara con van der Linde che ha tagliato il traguardo vincendo l’edizione 2025 della 1000km di Suzuka.
Per Marciello si tratta del secondo successo nella storia di questa magica gara di durata, la prima con BMW, ottenendo il terzo podio consecutivo a Suzuka. Nell’Intercontinental GT Challenge Marciello è salito al
secondo posto in classifica piloti con 80 punti totali, a soli 5 punti dalla vetta. L’ultimo round dell’Intercontinental GT Challenge 2025 sarà sul circuito di Indianapolis il 18 ottobre.
