MARICELLO ENDS HIS ADAC GT MASTERS SEASON IN STYLE THANKS TO A POLE POSITION, A VICTORY AND A THIRD PLACE

In the last stage of the Adac GT Masters, which took place at Oschersleben (Germany), Marciello and Team HTP Winward finally obtained several well-deserved satisfactions after a season filled with bad luck and disappointment. During Thursday’s private tests, the work of the engineers paid off and HTP’s Mercedes AMG GT3 no. 48 showed promising signs of improvement. The positive trend continued on Friday, when the no. 48 obtained a second place in the second free session. The result instantly raised the whole team’s spirit, and on Saturday morning Raffaele’s Swiss teammate Ellis managed to avoid a red flag and finished fifth in qualifying. In the race that followed, Ellis sprinted from third row and settled in fourth, after which the race was interrupted by another red flag. After a long break and with 30 minutes to go, the Swiss handed the wheel to Marciello, who got back on the track in third after the pit-stop and kept the position, bringing home the first podium of the season.

On Sunday’s qualifying Marciello grabbed a pole in a chaotic session plagued by numerous red flags – a great satisfaction after such a hard season. But the satisfactions didn’t stop there: in the race, Marciello kept the lead in the initial phases, until yet another red flag (caused by an accident at the tail end of the race). Once the track was clear again, Raffaele unleashed all his talent and managed to gather an impressive advantage (10 seconds on the third car in only 30 minutes) thanks to an unmatchable race pace. Ellis made the most of the advantage he inherited and crossed the finish line in first.

It was a much welcome positive ending for a competition that didn’t go as planned for Marciello. The Ticino driver is now heading to France, where he will race in the last stage of the GT World Challenge Endurance at the Paul Ricard track: a high stake race that might see Raffaele win the drivers’ championship in the Endurance class.

    ADAC GT MASTERS – OSCHERSLEBEN
