MARCIELLO FINISHES FIFTH IN THE LAST WEEKEND OF PREPARATION BEFORE THE 24H

After a session of private tests at Hockenheim on Thursday, Marciello traveled to the Nordschleife to join Team Gatespeed and get ready for the fifth stage of the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie. Saturday’s six-hour race was the last opportunity for Raffaele and his teammates Götz, Buhk, and Schiller to take the fluorescent Mercedes AMG GT3 no 2 to the track before the 24H, which will take place on September 24-27.

As in the previous stages, the team’s objective was to gather as much experience as possible on a track that is famously hard to master. In Saturday moring’s qualifying, the Mercedes no. 2 finished eight in a 59-car table. The race started at midday and saw Götz keep the position, then hand the wheel to Buck around the 1 hour mark. The German followed the team’s pit stop strategy and settled around the 10th position. Schiller then took charge during the third and fourth hour, and concluded his stint in sixth thanks to a high-caliber performance that is hopefully a good omen for the 24H at the end of the month. Marciello drove during the next two hours, managing the traffic well and keeping an impressive pace whenever the track cleared. He had climbed up to second when he had to surrender his spot because of a pit stop. He got back on the track in fifth and finished the race in the same position. All in all, a job well done for the team, and a boost of confidence in view of the most important race of the season.

Next week, Marciello will join Team AKKA-ASP and teammates Fraga and Boguslavskiy at Nurburgring for the second stage of the GT World Challenge Endurance.
