SEVENTH PLACE FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO AT THE IMOLA 6 HOURS
The Swiss driver opened the 2026 season of the FIA World Endurance Championship with a top-ten finish at the wheel of the BMW M Hybrid V8 #15 run by BMW M Team WRT, shared at Imola with Kevin Magnussen.
The 2026 FIA WEC season kicked off on Sunday, April 19, at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Marciello tackled the opening round of the year in the Hypercar class, finishing the 6-hour race in seventh overall after a weekend that began with a place in Hyperpole.
The race for the BMW #15 was built on consistency and solid execution. After the first two hours, the crew was still hovering around the top ten, but as the race progressed, Marciello climbed up to fifth by the end of the fourth hour, remaining firmly in contention for the leading positions in the second half of the race.
In the closing stages, during a tightly contested phase, the BMW #15 fought within a pack covered by less than one and a half seconds, alongside the BMW #20, the Ferrari #50, and the Cadillac #38. It ultimately finished seventh, securing valuable points in what was still a positive start to the championship for the Bavarian manufacturer.
It remains a solid result for Marciello, achieved in a race contested by a two-driver lineup, with the feeling of having extracted nearly the maximum from the available package—though with some regret, as a top-five finish remained within reach until the final stages.
Marciello said after the race: “We need to keep working and improve.” He explained that a suboptimal tire choice during his stint likely cost the BMW #15 a chance to fight for fourth place.

La stagione 2026 del FIA WEC si è aperta domenica 19 aprile all’Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola. Raffaele Marciello ha affrontato il primo appuntamento
dell’anno nella classe Hypercar con la BMW M Hybrid V8 #15 del BMW M Team WRT, chiudendo la 6 Ore in settima posizione assoluta dopo un fine settimana iniziato con l’accesso all’Hyperpole.
La gara della BMW #15 è stata costruita con solidità e costanza. Dopo le prime due ore l’equipaggio era ancora a ridosso della top ten, ma con il passare della corsa Marciello è riuscito a risalire fino al quinto posto al termine della quarta ora, restando pienamente in lotta per le posizioni che contano nella seconda metà di gara.
Nel finale, in una fase molto combattuta della corsa, la BMW #15 ha lottato in un gruppetto racchiuso in meno di un secondo e mezzo insieme alla BMW #20, alla Ferrari #50 e alla Cadillac #38, chiudendo infine al settimo posto e conquistando punti importanti in un avvio di campionato comunque positivo per la casa bavarese.
Resta un risultato concreto per Marciello, maturato in una gara affrontata da un equipaggio di due piloti, con la sensazione di aver ottenuto quasi il massimo
possibile dal pacchetto a disposizione ma anche con un pizzico di rammarico per una top five rimasta alla portata fino alle fasi decisive.
