TRIUMPHANT SPRINT RETURN FOR RAFFAELE MARCIELLO AT MISANO
A victorious weekend for Raffaele Marciello at Misano, marking the Swiss driver’s return to the Sprint series. The Romagna circuit hosted the third round of the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe – Sprint Cup. For the occasion, Raffaele teamed up with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi in the #46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Team WRT, competing in the PRO class. It was the season debut in the Sprint series for the duo.
Saturday’s qualifying session was entrusted to Rossi, who secured an excellent second place in the PRO class, third overall. The race unfolded perfectly: under the sunset lights, Rossi started the first of the weekend’s two sprint-format races. As soon as the pit window opened after 25 minutes, the #46 came in for the driver change, allowing Raffaele Marciello to take the wheel. The Swiss driver rejoined the race in second place, with just over half an hour to close a six-second gap to the leader. Thanks to an incredible pace — including the fastest lap of the race at 1:32.745 — Marciello executed a spectacular overtake to take the lead just six minutes from the end, winning the first race at Misano.
Marciello maintained his blistering speed on Sunday morning during the second qualifying session, where he secured another second place with a time of 1:31.674. He also started Sunday’s race, launching an aggressive stint chasing the race leader. However, the race was interrupted by a red flag that lasted nearly two hours. When the race resumed, the #46 was still running in second place, as it had been earlier. Unfortunately, a pit limiter issue caused Marciello to exceed the speed limit in the pit lane, resulting in a drive-through penalty that dropped Rossi down to 21st overall — out of the points.
The weekend concluded with a race win and the potential for another podium, clearly demonstrating the outstanding competitiveness of both BMW and Raffaele Marciello. His next appearance will be on August 31st at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, when the GT World Challenge returns with the endurance format.
VITTORIOSO RIENTRO SPRINT PER RAFFAELE MARCIELLO A MISANO
Un fine settimana trionfale per Raffaele Marciello a Misano nel rientro del pilota svizzero nella serie Sprint. Il circuito romagnolo ha ospitato il terzo appuntamento della stagione 2025 del GT World Challenge Europe – Sprint Cup. Per l’occasione, Raffaele ha fatto coppia con il pluricampione della Motogp Valentino Rossi a bordo della BMW M4 GT3 EVO #46 del team WRT, competendo in categoria PRO. Per il duo, si è trattato del debutto stagionale nella serie sprint.
Le qualifiche del sabato sono state affidate a Rossi, il quale ha conquistato un ottimo secondo posto in classe PRO, terza assoluta. La gara è andata nel migliore dei modi: sotto le luci del tramonto, Rossi ha preso il via nella prima delle due gare previste dal format sprint del campionato. Appena la direzione gara ha consentito i cambi pilota dopo 25 minuti, la #46 è rientrata ai box per far entrare in pista Raffaele Marciello. L’elvetico è uscito dai box in seconda posizione, avendo poco più di mezz’ora per recuperare sei secondi sul proprio rivale. Grazie a un passo fenomenale, nonché il giro più veloce della gara in 1:32.745, Marciello ha messo in atto un sorpasso spettacolare conquistando la testa della corsa a soli sei minuti dal termine e vincendo la prima gara a Misano.
La velocità pura è stata mantenuta da Raffaele anche domenica mattina nella seconda qualifica, durante la quale ha ottenuto la seconda piazza con il tempo di 1:31.674. Lello ha anche preso il via domenica pomeriggio, effettuando uno stint all’attacco del leader della corsa. La gara di Marciello è stata interrotta da una bandiera rossa durata quasi due ore, che tuttavia non ha modificato le posizioni nella parte alta della classifica. Infatti, dopo la ripresa della corsa, la #46 era ancora seconda, come nella fase iniziale. Sfortunatamente, un problema al pit limiter ha portato Raffaele ad eccedere la velocità massima ai box, portandolo a ricevere un drive through che ha portato Rossi in 21esima posizione assoluta, fuori dai punti.
Si è dunque concluso un weekend dove è arrivata una vittoria e dove un altro podio sarebbe stato possibile, dimostrando l’eccezionale competitività sia di BMW che di Raffaele Marciello. Il prossimo impegno per lui sarà il 31 agosto sul circuito del Nürburgring, Germania, quando il GT World Challenge tornerà con la versione endurance del campionato.
